Vudu Player finally allows movie downloads on iPhone, iPad

Coming months after the feature’s introduction on Android and PCs, Vudu has updated the iOS version of its app with the ability to download movies for viewing offline. Unlike the Android version, this feature is not restricted to tablets however, with downloads of your Vudu / Ultraviolet collection on iPads and iPhones. Other tweaks include making the Player “easier to use” and adding closed captions on iPhone. The Flixster app already allowed for Ultraviolet movie downloads on iOS, however Vudu has access to some movies that may not be available there. The updated version of the free app is available on on iTunes, although you will need an associated account (with updated password info) with unlocked videos to get any use out of it.

Super Hexagon and VVVVVV developer working on a puzzle game

Category: Gaming Comments: No comments

This hardened gamer still has literal nightmares about that VVVVVV level where you hop along the undersides of wildly ping-ponging platforms while trying not to fall into a pit of spikes—you know, that level. And let’s not even talk about how quickly my fat fingers fail at the psychedelic Super Hexagon. Terry Cavanagh’s notorious for laying out challenges of immense difficulty—what will happen when he sinks his hands into the puzzle genre? We’ll be finding out soon.

Over on his Distractionware blog, Cavanagh has posted a screenshot of his next work-in-progress, a puzzle game with the oh-so-appropriate working title Halting Problem. Something tells me that the simple level layout and the happy little dude are not indicative of the near-frustrating challenges we will be posed.

Puzzling is s...

Microsoft's New Generation Xbox event is live tomorrow, get your liveblog right here!

Category: GadgetsInternet MarketingTechnologyUncategorized Comments: No comments

We’re gathering just outside of Microsoft’s HQ for what is looking like it’ll be a day full of excitement, culminating in the “special unveiling” of a “New Generation.” It’ll be the next Xbox for sure, replacing the venerable Xbox 360 that has been giving us gaming joy (and occasionally frustration) since way back in 2005. Will this new unit be powerful enough to stay relevant for that long, too? Or, will this be the generation when Sony takes back the lead? Join us at the link below at 1:00pm ET tomorrow!

Shadow Warrior teaser trailer announces the reboot that no one knew they wanted

Category: Gaming Comments: No comments

Shadow Warrior is a bit of a blip in the history of PC gaming. The 1997 FPS from the creators of Duke Nukem 3D attempted to parody bad kung fu movies by pouring Eastern themes all over Duke Nukem‘s technology. While Shadow Warrior was one of the first games to really put the Build engine through its paces, it never achieved the fame of Duke Nukem or Blood. To its credit, it wasn’t horrible enough to enjoy the infamy of 1998’s Extreme Paintbrawl, one of our lowest-rated games ever.

So it comes as a bit of a surprise that Shadow Warrior is being rebooted by developers Flying Wild Hog, previously of the eye-catching but flawed sci-fi shooter Hard Reset. The new game will be a “bold re-imagining” of the late-’90s shooter. Not too bold, though...

Flickr updates its website and Android app with a more eyepleasing interface, we go handson

Flickr’s one of the elder statesmen of the online photo sharing world, but in recent years its UI has grown a bit long in the tooth when compared to the eye candy provided by other kids on the social sharing block. That’s all changed as of today, as Marissa Mayer’s team has overhauled Flickr’s look on the web and in its Android app. Out goes the old layout, where text and white space commanded almost as much real estate as your photos, and in comes a tiled layout that’s nothing but images.

Google Checkout for merchants to be retired on November 20th

Although Google Checkout was rolled into Google Wallet at the end of 2011, it’s still been an option for folks who peddle their wares online to collect payments. Come November 20th, however, the service will officially shut down. While Page and Co. recommend US-based merchants switch to the revamped Wallet, they’re partnering with Braintree, Shopify and Freshbooks to offer discounted migration options as well. Developers using Checkout for transactions through the Chrome Web Store, Google Play and Offers Marketplace will automatically be transitioned in the coming weeks.
